The project aim to mitigate the difference of levels between the village and the sea, which currently prevents the continuity of the fruition of the urban space and the beach. A flight of steps, if large enough, can be seen as a "sloping square" which quickly connects places at different levels of the city but can also serve as a public space for resting and socializing. The new project will have the characteristics of an " inhabited artificial cliff," which can be climbed and where one can find his own space. It will also remind of a medieval village built on a hill, where the space of the public paths is indistinguishable from the one of indoor activities.
The flight of steps, like cliffs along the coast, multiplies the available space usable to enjoy the sea view and enjoy access to the beach. Walking along the waterfront up to Piazza Giardino and going down to the beaches will be part of a unitary experience of use of public space both during the day and at night. We Imagine the new outdoor environments enriched by a multitude of different activities and frequented by people with different interests. Everyone will conduct its own activity, and at the same time can observe the others while being observed.
Il progetto si pone l'obiettivo di mitigare la differenza di quota tra il paese e il mare, che attualmente impedisce una fruizione unitaria dello spazio urbano e delle spiagge. Una scalinata, se sufficientemente ampia, può essere vista come una “piazza inclinata” che collega rapidamente luoghi a quote differenti della città ma può servire anche da spazio pubblico per la sosta e la socializzazione. Il nuovo intervento avrà le caratteristiche di una “scogliera artificiale abitata”, dove arrampicarsi per trovare il proprio spazio, e di un borgo medievale in pendenza, dove lo spazio dei percorsi pubblici si confonde con quello delle attività al coperto. Le gradonate, come scogli lungo la costa, moltiplicano lo spazio a disposizione per poter godere della vista del mare e fruire dell’accesso alle spiagge.
