The City of Osijek developed over the centuries along the Drava River beginning with the ancient walled city, and more recently, the modern city center down river.  The program required a rather dense polyvalent quarter that would unite the two existing centers.  It was essential to maintain the natural character of the site while providing a liveable density.  A complex system similar to the statification of the built environment over time was investigated in order to model the project.  From this research various analytical diagrams of the site’s morphology emerged which were superimposed on the functional diagrams indicated by the program and context.  In this manner, a transformation was possible that integrates the project with the site’s natural and historic qualities.

La prossimità del fiume e l’abbondanza di verde conferiscono all’area una forte identità legata alla natura del luogo. Il nuovo quartiere, pur mantenendo queste qualità, deve essere caratterizzato da una marcata densità edificata che tuttavia permetta una piacevole convivenza. Il progetto presenta la complessità di un sistema organico la cui densità e stratificazione è paragonabile a quella dei centri storici. Con l ‘aggiunta delle nuove tipologie e attingendo al potenziale naturale del luogo si è voluto creare uno specifico paesaggio edificato.
